LPG is an abbreviation for 'Liquified
Petroleum Gas'. Also know as Gas or Autogas it is a by - product of the
refinement of crude oil. LPG is also produced when Natural Gas (Methane)
is extracted from the gas fields and 'dried' before being piped to homes
and industry.
There are over 9 million LPG vehicles
worldwide and 117,000 on the road in the UK. Although larger commercial
vehicles typically run on LPG alone, the vast majority of cars and vans
using LPG are bi-fuel vehicles which can also use petrol.
In fact almost any petrol engine can be modified to run on Autogas. Some
major automobile manufacturers now include new bi-fuel vehicles on
their pricelists. (cont'd)
